Cupertino High School’s varsity football team opposed Bear Creek High School during their first home game on Friday, Sept. 1. CHS lost 34-14 after leading in the first quarter.
“After the second or third year, [the first home game] just feels like a tradition,” senior Sami Abudamous said. “Knowing it’s my last season is like ending that tradition.”
Throughout the game, CHS maintained a high level of effort and determination.
“Our team just focused on what we learned throughout the week about their team and how to stop them,” Abudamous continued.
The Associated Student Body athletics commission decorated the bleachers, encouraged students to wear school colors and helped lead cheers, hoping to increase the spirit of CHS’s student section.
Said ASB athletics commissioner Justin Yu, “Although this past game was incredible, it’s just the tip of the iceberg.”
Yu and his team hope to incorporate merchandise booths and face painting into future games, as well as re-establish the Pioneer Pit, a designated area for CHS students.
“Even if you’re not the biggest sports fan, the environment and vibe is unmatched,” Yu said.
