More than 200 musicians filled Mission Santa Clara de Asís to perform Cupertino High School’s annual Masterworks Concert on Friday, March 6. The CHS Chamber Orchestra and guest musicians opened the concert under conductor Jill Hirsh’s direction. Following the orchestra’s performance, the CHS Choir joined to perform Americana music.
“All the time we spent crammed on the risers during rehearsals really paid off once the concert came together,” senior and Cappella member Chency Hung said. “Since this is my last year in choir, I’ll definitely miss the opportunity Cupertino gives us to collaborate with an orchestra.”
While musicians faced challenges synchronizing voices with instruments, the night ultimately served as a bridge, connecting performers across communities through their shared passions.
“[The concert is] a unique experience, and I’m not sure if I’ll ever get the chance to do something like that again,” Hung said. “Ending the concert with ‘When the Saints Go Marching In,’ the same song we used our freshman year to end the concert, got me feeling a bit emotional as it’s a really meaningful way to close my final Masterworks Concert.”
